Brief description Gansey pattern, Betty Martin and crabpots (meshes with diagonal bars), worn by Buster Long, Sheringham fisherman; very fine knitting
Note Meshes have an unconventional bar added to the meshes which I interpret as representing the rope or tow that attached the pot to a buoy at the surface (for a single pot, also know as a 'swummer', used before pots were tied together in shanks on the seabed)

Notes This is an unconventional design and at first I overlooked the extra bar leading off the top of the meshes. It was Val Smith who pointed it out and verified it in her second swatch. I find it It attractive exactly because it is unconventional. It is quite flat, as several Sheringham ganseys in Teapot West's collection are and finely knitted but the extra bar just changes the meshes sufficiently to give it a more tesselated feel. I feel it is worthy of being knitted into a whole gansey.
